My name is Abigail Russ, and I am currently a student at the University of Maryland, College Park, where I am working towards a dual degree in broadcast journalism at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism and economics at the School of Behavioral and Social Science. I am also a member of the Public Leadership Scholars program, which is a selective living and learning program offered by UMD. Outside of classes I am a campus tour guide and the membership vice president of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity.
I am dedicated and excited to build a career in both journalism and economics, and look forward to learning and growing as a young professional.

Federal News Network - WFED Radio
June 2022- Aug. 2022
Interned at Federal News Network, a daily radio and web publication specializing in news for the federal government bureucrat. Wrote daily newscasts for the morning radio segment the Federal Newscast. I also write articles and produce stories for the radio on information pertaining to the inner workings of the federal government to assist federal bureaucrats and contractors in doing their job better. I edit podcasts for WFED 1500's morning show the Federal Drive with Tom Temin and schedules guest interviews. For a worked on the web desk for a few weeks, updating the webpage while monitoring story performance. During those weeks, I also composed the morning newsletter and promoted articles and interviews on social media.
Video Production Intern

I was offered a position to continue learning from my former professor and mentor as she transitions into her new role as video director for the University of Maryland Office of Strategic Communications. I help produce marketing videos for the university, the office of the president and for other departments around campus. I work with the video director to plan and organize, record videos, run teleprompters and edit videos to go out for the campus community.
Multiplatform Editing Intern

I was competitively selected for the Dow Jones News Fund Multiplatform Editing Program. During the program the cohort produced three daily publications of the Southwest Journalist where I copy edited, wrote print and online headlines, designed sites with news judgment and created alternative story forms.
After being placed at Patch.com I edited and fact checked over 600 articles and wrote headlines and “5 Things To Know” on the National, Georgia and Southeast desks.
